Let's get real - forums being a full-time job paying you everything you need to not work is nothing but a dream.

But how much do you really need to make from your forum to meet your goal? Realistically? What is the amount you'd like to be making right now?

I don't think an average forum is going to ever pay someone enough money for him to depend and work on it as a full time job. Unless it's something as big as Reddit or others like it in that size that's going to ever pay enough that's going cover for a full time job.

For me, if I were to ever monetize a forum, I'm going to go for an amount to let the forum pay for itself.

Anything extra, I'll put into a contest fund or something like that to give to the community.

When I had a forum, I was content with just breaking even. Enough to cover costs of hosting, licenses, domains, themes, etc.
That's really all I'd want. That keeps it a fun hobby that doesn't cost a lot.

This is a very good strategy because that's going to ensure the forum never having to struggle with being alive because it's self sufficient. A lot of forums that are not self sufficient tend to struggle and die off once the owner can't finance the running cost from his pocket.

I just wouldn't take a risk of trying to make forums my full-time job.

Forums are too finicky for that. Sometimes they're popular. Sometimes they're on the verge of dying.

To me, blogging is a way better form of turning your internet stuff into profit.

It's a very common thing with forums, and it's even worst with paid to post forums. It's why we don't see so many of them being active and successful as they used to be. It's only Beer Money Forum and Forum Coin that are still doing well in that niche.

I love that Forum Coin uses phpBB too. Eat your heart out people who think only premium software works!

This one just cracked me up really hard 😂 😂. Do you know how many times I've been like expecting Fregal to upgrade to using XenForo or any other paid software but bro never given to the pressure.
