If a .com isn't available, what's your next choice?

I know. it takes a little to grasp the idea.

That's why I try to get unique about things.

Another Admin Forum is unique but brandable because of its uniqueness.

HikingWithShawn was unique and really turned into a brand!

I got lucky with OffTopicForum. OffTopic.com is also a much larger off topic forum but in all honesty, I would rather have my domain because I want the word forum as a part of the brand.

Another Admin Forum it's a very catchy name. Very easy to remember.
OffTopicForum.com it's also super easy to remember and it says what it is from the name. It's a good name!

There have been many cases in which I have gone to purchase a domain and the .com is not available. I tend to be a little disappointed but if I am unable to get the .com I will go for either .net or .org if I need to, in some cases I will brainstorm a new name if I can't get the .net or .com as I feel they are the ones I prefer the most.

I started with xyz domain and no body took me seriously. Then I moved to dot info, and still there was no good response. Then finally, I started using dot com. Technically speaking, domain extension is not SEO factor but in practical stand point, dot com has a lot of value. I agree that if you don't own a dot com, you don't own the brand.

I'd rather use a dot come but I do like to .blog TLDs as well.
