It is said that some forum owners out there will login into inactive accounts belonging to other members of the forum who were once active and sparked big conversations and they'll post as if those members were back.

How do you feel about something like this? Do you think it's wrong? On multiple levels?

How could any justify doing something like this?

I also doubt any forum admin in their right mind would have the audacity to try this on a member who has the potential to re-appear

I’ve heard of fake accounts created to make the forum look more active with more active posters

I've heard of it happening.

I definitely think it's wrong and I could never do it. But there are forums doing it and they think it's somehow justified.

I'm interested in seeing what justification a forum owner might have, even if someone here wished to just play devil's advocate about it.

I have no gossip.

It's just a question of someone wanting to take on that role to try to justify it :)

Scenarios ;)

You’ve heard of it happening though so you have some juicy gossip to spill :D
In the past, I knew of forum owners who kept the same database of people and posts. They would create new forums and then login to those accounts to act as the users. It was back before I left forums. I can't remember the name of the person who did it. I don't think they're around anymore.

I know I bought a general forum from them once and then later found out they recycle the users/content and I felt cheated.

That made me never want to buy a forum database again to be honest.
