This is an interview between me and
@Cedric who is co-admin of
Administrata, a very popular and growing admin forum that you all should be a part of. In this interview, we try to focus on running admin forums. I hope you enjoy it!
1. Introduce yourself. Tell us about you as a person. Give as much information as you want everyone to know here.
My name is Cedric. I am passionate about building communities and helping others achieve their goals as admins. I strive for balance, working towards financial stability, nurturing my family, and creating spaces where others can thrive.
2. Tell us about your current forum projects.
I run
Administrata, a platform dedicated to empowering community admins. It provides resources like design services, content packages, and advertising opportunities while fostering collaboration among admins and community enthusiasts.
I also manage
Agora, a marketplace for freelancers and businesses.
Another project of mine is
After Hours, initially designed as an adult forum. However, I’ve struggled to find the time to complete it, which has made me question whether to proceed with its current concept. It’s currently running on Invision V5 Beta.
3. As an experienced admin forum owner, what are the biggest challenges of running an admin forum?
The biggest challenge is keeping the forum dynamic and engaging while balancing a niche focus with a broader appeal. Many admins are busy, so maintaining participation and ensuring the platform provides real value takes constant innovation and effort.
4. What's your favorite thing about running an admin forum?
I love the sense of empowerment it brings. Seeing admins share ideas, solve problems, and grow their communities is incredibly inspiring. Being able to assist in that process - whether by increasing a community’s visibility or providing essential resources - is deeply rewarding. It’s also fulfilling to create connections that might otherwise not exist.
5. If someone asked you for advice on starting their own admin forum, what advice would you give them?
Start with a clear vision and focus on offering unique value to your audience. Engage authentically, listen to your members, and build slowly - quality over quantity. Finally, be prepared to pivot and adapt to what your community needs.
6. What made you choose the admin forum niche?
I’m deeply passionate about community building. After selling my previous admin forum, I wasn’t planning to create another, but people kept asking me to bring one back. Eventually, I couldn’t resist. Administrata started as a directory, but it wasn’t a tough decision to evolve it into what it is today.
7. Do you think there is too much saturation in the admin forum niche?
There are certainly a lot of admin forums out there, and I know of at least one more in the works. That said, I believe there’s still room for growth - especially for platforms that offer something unique. The key is differentiation and providing real value rather than replicating others. So far, each admin forum has carved out its own unique identity.
8. If you weren't creating a forum in the admin niche, what kind of forum niche would you choose next?
Fun fact: I’ve been building forums centered on resources, services, and advertising since 2006. This niche always draws me back - it’s what I know and love.
Agora, which focuses on the freelancer niche, is harder to maintain because it’s not where my passion truly lies.
