How do you prevent your moderators from burning out and disappearing from your forum?

Engaging moderators on a forum is important. They need to feel like they are a big part of the community and worthy. It's important that they enjoy showing up. If they start to dread showing up, they'll burn out and likely become inactive.

Setting up plans to avoid moderators' burnout is very important for having an active forum where a lot of things are working well. There are a lot of decisions that forum owners can make which will help moderators stay motivated and active. One of them is ensuring that there is access to resources that enable moderators to manage stress better.

Also, having meetings or personal discussions with a particular moderator who you noticed is not doing the work better can be a way to know what is wrong and give a break where necessary. These methods are smart ways that one could use to build a better communication system with the moderators.
