More active off topic section?

It's not, but even if it was, I wouldn't do anything that would restrict the off topic section. It's simply where the community bonds.
I used to dislike an active OT section because I felt it took away from the main niche.

However, I'm like you are today. I don't care if that becomes more active than the niche boards anymore. Wherever people want to congregate, it's here for them :)

Honestly, as long as community bonding and relationships are forming, I don't worry about which section of my forum is getting more activity. As long as my members are engaging, having fun, and talking, that's all that matters at the end of the day.

If they want to hang out, talk about coffee, movies, or games, then I'll take a seat with them and do it too. Even if it's in the off topic area, I'm building a community, I'm not building a tent that's closed off to the entire world.

I'll be apart of the discussions as well, as long as they're creating discussions anywhere. That's the best, let them talk, let them have fun. That's what community building is at the end of the day.

That's really the ultimate goal, isn't it?

To have an active community. If they're not discussing the main niche as much and they'd rather talk about OT stuff, they're still being active and that's what matters at the end of the day.

It is. It's like how Reddit and Digg formed. They catered to a few things, then branched out to more areas. It's the very basis of a forum. You start with a few subjects, then expand your horizons as the community grows and flourishs.

It's like a garden, you plant the seed, water it, and it matures.
