Register or Join

How do you feel about changing the word "Register" to "Join" on forums?

Most membership websites use words like join, subscribe, signup, etc.

No one is using the word register aside from forums.

Maybe those not as familiar with forums don't immediately see register to join because they're looking for a different word.

What do you all think about this? Do you think it matters or is it just fluff?

Personally, join sounds too causal in my opinion which is why I believe most forum owners use "Register" because it sounds more official.

For the record, I haven't seen any forum that used join as the start out path for new members to get onboard.
