Religious topics

I hardly engage in religious topics anywhere. I don't do it on forums and never on social media sites. It's worse on social media sites because no one regulates how the discussion goes on as it always ends bad. Even if what they are discussing is of an interest to me, I'll resist the urge to participate.

I believe you made the right decision. Most people can go the extra mile of trying to track someone with the intention to harm them all because of a social media religious post. So, I would say that ensuring that one avoids getting involved in such discussions is the right way to go about it.

I have an off-topic section where users can post about anything, including religion, but I wouldn’t actively encourage discussions on religious topics. It’s fine as long as it stays respectful, but I prefer the main forum focus to remain on core subjects.
When I see adults behaving like kids because they have different opinions and conviction on a particular religious topic, I wonder how they were brought with such low mentality. It's a disappointment seeing mature adults act like they are underage kids.

I set clear rules on the extent religious discussions should happen on my forum. Inasmuch as I won't mind the traffic that such a talk would garner, I can't let the talk extend to verbal abuse or threats against the community.

This is what I always let new members know and anyone who resorts to threats all because of disagreement on a religious discussion happening on the forum risks being banned permanently. That has made a lot of people mind their business when it comes to having that kind of talk on the forum.

I personally don’t like getting involved in religious discussions at all. They usually turn heated very quickly and can create unnecessary tension between members. From what I have seen on forums, it is often better to avoid those topics completely to keep the community peaceful and focused.
