Do you think all platforms that wish to be modern forum platforms should have a dark/light mode by default as a modern standard?

HTTPS and SSL is now a standard. Mobile responsiveness is now a standard. How about light and dark theme styles? I'm seeing more and more popular apps and websites offer this feature.

Should it be a standard or is it just a feature? What do you think?

Yes, the capability is present to use system settings to follow a light/dark setting from the device accessing the site.
If someone has chosen to do that for their phone, they most likely will prefer it also when visiting a site. With most quality scripts it is becoming standard. The few exceptions are the same ones that usually do not have a native "mobile" ability built into it, instead relying on a theme/style and add-ons.

I agree.

Even the big apps are doing it like Facebook, Strava, and even paid apps I use.

I think more forum platforms need to get on board with this feature.
