Do any other you have staff training or moderator onboarding sessions on your forum?

Unless a new moderator is used to moderating on your forum software choice, it's safe to say they may not understand how to use your moderation controls.

It's a good idea to train moderators or have some sort of staff onboarding process.

What do you all think about this?

If you're already familiar with the person whom you hired as a moderator to be experienced on the job, I don't think a full training is necessary because they are already used to the job. But when it's someone new whom haven't worked as a mod with any forum software, but you decide to give him a trail, it's very important to train him or her and let them work on probation for 1 month at least.

I think it's at least a good idea to link to forum software manuals and articles to show people how to use controls.

Just in case they run into issues.

If you are hiring a moderator for your forum, you need to have some onboarding process for them as part of your website's structure. Even hiring individuals that already have experience as moderators, they have to come up to speed with the unique culture of your forum and it's rules. That training can ensure newly hired moderators don't make early mistakes. A simple guide specific to your forum and it's software is enough training.
