How have you customized your WordPress theme?

What have you done to make it different or unique than other people?

If you haven't done anything at all, are you worried the theme may bore people?

So this time around, for my blog, I decided to do something different and go with Root Sage, which is kind of like a framework for building WordPress themes.

I saw some pretty cool themes on other blogs and saw that they customized it using Sage so I went with that. It was something new for me to learn and thought it went in line with theme of my blog.

The main custom thing I added so far was my projects section.

I originally thought it was a theme builder like Divi when I first saw it mentioned and saw it in use on other wordpress sites.

It's basically a framework where you have to code out the theme. It's like writing from scratch, but Roots provides the groundwork so it's not completely from scratch.

Since programming and development is a hobby of mine (which is what my blog is about!), I would say that I like the workflow. It's similar to how I have been doing my other projects. Highly customizable.

That being said, I'm not familiar with all the tools used by Roots, specifically Laravel. So that has been a hurdle for me but I think I'm getting the hang of it now (after much trial and error). Also if everything is custom-made, it's going to have to be maintained.

Honestly, using Sage for my blog is way too much. From what I gathered, it shines more when you have a lot more complexity, which I don't.

But I wanted to give it a go and try it out.
