Do you allow members to have any username, or do you require them to use real names only?

Do you use a username alias, or do you use your real name?

I have always used my name either "Shawn" or "Shawn Gossman" on forums. I do occasionally use an alias if I want to protect my identity like for websites that have to do with work, since I work in a sensitive field.

But as for forum members, I prefer to let them decide what their username should be. Once you start requiring things, you'll get less members.

I like a shield of anonymity, and that was before "they" could take you out of context and destroy your life. I suppose I always used nicknames because I started with them on games and whatnot, only having to ever move to an alias D/B/A name on a Big Board I worked for.
