We all have a different style in how we manage and moderate our forums.

I try to be as laid back as possible, but I don't put up with BS. I let a lot of stuff go but if you try to walk on me, I go from laid back dude to moderator in charge.

I don't even like locking topics that much.

How about you all? What's your management and moderation style?

When it comes to how I love to run a forum, I pretty much like to be involved as much as possible. It doesn't mean I'll be posting all over the place but at least my presence will be noticed. Whenever I'm tagged or mentioned in any post, I'd respond on that immediately.

As for locking threads, it's not really necessary but when it's obvious the topic discussion have been exhausted, I'd moved it to archives.

With moderation, I don't like striking without trying to talk to parties involved to make sure I don't make any mistakes in handling a problem.

For managing an online community, I always prefer aligning to existing structure and my approach is proactive. I always lay down clear rules and use those rules to intervene in conversations as it starts dwindling into rules breaking. I don't waste time to lock a topic if it is clearly if it just starts leaning towards directed arguments. Am I strict? No. I am just proactive so that everyone knows what to expect.

So far, I think we all agree on the same style.

I used to be a lot stricter when I first started making forums, but I was young and fresh. Now, I'm older and experienced enough to know what a big deal is and what really isn't that big of a deal.

I prefer being laid back, especially in a time where less people are joining forums and instead going for social communities where there are practically no rules or moderation.
