Is there a point to when you need to quit trying to make your forum work?

Reflect on this subject deeply. You've tried and tried to grow your forum. You've been posting regularly and trying to get new members. However, nothing works and it will not budge.

At what point, do you just give up?

Or do you keep trying and just assume it will finally happen one of these days.

What would be your strategy here?

Try try and try again.
If you reach fail To the bottom then there no way to go but go but up.

I have shut down forums for a few years but I relaunched it ultimately. I do not quit, it is my passion. If I can make money, that is simply great.
What if you can't make money on the forum?

Do you keep it around for fun or close it down?

I have websites that generate money for me, and I can use that income to fund my forums that are not making money. I will keep forums with me as long as I find passion, if I lose passion, I will try selling them. I have never shut down any forums and then quit.

I feel you!

When I get into that zone, I remind myself what was the initial purpose of my forum. Then I can immediately remove any feelings of quitting.
If your purpose has changed, then it's time to quit. But if not, just keep working it out.

In my case, I had been disappointed many times because I haven't reached the level I wanted. But my forum has been and it's currently doing it's purpose (at a minimal scale, but it's doing it) and that's enough to keep it rolling until I find other ways to level it up.

As I advise to anyone looking to start a new forum. Make sure to have a strong purpose to start with.

Sometimes you need to lower your expectations and goals, celebrate small wins, and let it gradually led up to the bigger wins.

When you no longer enjoy the time you devote to the site, either administering it or generating content.
Even if using the site as a source of income there reaches a point, like with any job, that it may be time to move on.

I totally agree.

I've had income generating blogs in the past that I just got sick of updating.

Took them down, ended the income generation, and moved on the better things.

When your passion is gone to run the forum, maybe you can take a break for a while. Allow yourself to reflect and recharge then decide if you will still continue or do other things instead.
