Is writing in all caps that big of a deal?

Do you allow it on your forum? If not, do you use an automated process to eliminate it or do you make members quit doing it themselves?

I have always been someone who has seen writing in all caps as a form of shouting, so it is not something I like to see in my community or in any other community.

Others may have a different opinion on caps being used, though.
I kind of wish forums had features where you can display the font face, size, caps/no caps, and format based on what you want to see.

So, if John prefers to write in all caps, he can and he sees all caps. But Jane could make it to where all caps are lowercase on her end, but John can't see it on his end.

It's definitely an act of shouting to me! It's also very difficult for me to read anything in all caps as well.

It's a very good idea what you're suggesting but I think everyone should have it on default setting first before they can decide to go change it to however they want to see it displayed for them.

Why you shouting for? With the “!”?

Only joking!

I don’t mind really we have to take in count not everyone is having a good experience in life right now so I would simply PM ask them why? Are you OK? Want someone to talk too? being the administrator and the value of someone life experiences. BUT I will gently remind to not speak in caps if you want someone to caps at PM me. :)

But yeah your right @Shawn Gossman that mod might come in handy for some.

While this could be done with a javascript function. I think the solution is to tell John not to do that lol...
If someone is shouting, I guess you really want to see who's shouting whether to report it or to understand his/her frustration about whatever is said.

I've got a friend who tends to write (in normal conversations) in all lower case.
The funny thing is, I know he knows how to use the caps key as he was responsible when he was manager over a help desk and he was responsible for writing procedural manuals.
But he's usually on his phone and he's gotten in the habit of not using caps at all.

I see that a lot. It's easy to not capitalize anything when on your phone. IMO, it's harder to fix stuff on the phone unless you have an app install for it.

I wanted to shout a little.. Don't mind me, I'm just being silly 😂.

You're right about some people going through a lot and they're usually looking for a way to lash out. My old man once said that people are like garbage truck that keeps collection trash, once they are full, they look for someone to dump it on and continue the cycle again.

So, reaching out to try and understand what's going on with them isn't a bad idea.

A friendly message from the owner of a popular forum asking someone if they are ok can go a long way!
