What is the most amount of money you've spent on server costs?

Would you be willing to spend more than that?

For about a year I was spending almost $300 on a server that was capable of doing VPS configuration for what amounted to commercial VPS hosting (and hosting some sites for free while they looked for a long term hosting provider). I decided I didn't want to get into that and kept the server for a while until I got tired of paying for WAY more than I needed at that time (and would need even now).
That was about the time I started getting into astronomy heavy and figured that $250 a month would go towards a lot of nice astro equipment. :p

What hosting provider were you using originally?

I've used several over the years. When I was running the largest server I have provisioned it was with a company out of Dallas. Don't remember the name of it now but I do know that their quality has dropped and remember reading someone having issues with them drafting funds after a server was terminated.
Next to that was 3 with OVH, each were around $150 a month. At that time you could get decent servers for that amount.

I use cloud services billed per hour so it can range from $120ish to $250/month, depending on if I want to get a heavy task done faster (deploy an 8vCPU instance to bust something out quickly as I do value my time too, even though it could very well fully execute on 1vCPU).

I also have Object Storage at $6/mo and DDoS protection at $10/mo. I don't know how effective the DDoS protection is (small attacks vs. large), but it did stop one in its tracks that took down a site as soon as I applied it. Daily snapshots are I think around $5, I'm not quite sure as they're done in the background and just applied on the invoice.

Then, I have 4 IPv4 IP addresses at I think $12.

With the servers I had, I had 32 IPv4 addresses for each of them. Was not that much more at that time.
All the servers I had at that time I ran ProxMox on. And the biggest one I had a dedicated (for my main VPS) set up for 12vCPU. During that time I was would only grab a dual CPU based system.
Since my sites never took off and I decided to not do any hosting I dropped back to what was a more realistic requirement for my low-impact sites. The biggest one runs on an OVH dedicated server and bandwidth is a bigger concern for it than CPU or memory as it gets a lot of requests on its content.
