Promotion and Advertising Forums

Do you use promotion and advertising forums to promote your forum?

Do you think these are good for getting more members and traffic on your forum?

What's your tactics for promoting on these forums?

I never have. I always relied on Google and other search engines for traffic.

In the past, when I was a Microsoft MVP, I used to add a link to my tech site when ever I posted in one of the groups. I haven't been active in while on them. They do bring users. You have to make sure you post on topic with a helpful answer.
