How would you rate yourself as a forum admin?

Are you calm and laid back, rarely pressing the ban button?

Or are you strict and you keep a tight leash on your community?

Maybe you're between the two styles above? Maybe something else?

What kind of forum admin are you?

laid back, but, can be a lion to users that try to take advantage.
That's me.

I'm too old to tolerate nonsense but if there isn't nonsense, you'll forget I'm even an admin LOL

I haven't hit the ban button not even once. I haven't had the need for it. But I like to press buttons if I get into that job position :)
I like to keep some rules very strictly and I am lay down with other that are not so important. Example, having more than one account
on my forum is a forbidden rule. No activity or supportive members are removed - that's another strict rule. (it's a community, not a theater, you take, you give or you give and you take. period I am fine with either direction, but make sure you give)

I hate lies. If you messed it up, but if you talk straight to me like a man, I can tolerate many things. I have a ton of defects, so I expect you too, but sincerity is a must (no tolerance with liars)

I agree with this.

Lying is a no go for me, too.

I'm very laid back to the point I'll remove specific rules if people keep breaking them. For example, I originally required 5 posts to post an advertisement on my forum and people kept disregarding the rule, so I just removed it.

I've only had to hit the ban hammer for 4 out of nearly 2000 members and those were just spammers.

I could see myself doing something like that - in terms of removing a rule like that.

In fact, when opening this forum, I made it a point to allow forum showcase submissions right away - no post counted required. :) It's mainly because I've seen other forums require an amount and thought it was too strict. LOL.

I wouldn't remove a rule that prohibited bullying or something major like that.

Yeah and don’t remove a rule prohibiting illegal activity unless you wanna run into law enforcement 🤣

I'm actually very surprised at some of your past moderator actions. You took action on a forum member for something that happened outside of the forum, which is a very expansive perspective of admin powers.

I think that’s fair enough in avoiding potential legal and ethical issues.

Besides, employees have been fired from jobs for being involved in violence outside of work. There are just some you don’t wish to associate yourself with

He banned a known sex offender, which is a good thing especially since there was underage users on his forum. Would you allow a sex offender to roam freely on your forum? You probably would since you’re defending the actions of a known sex offender.

I am the kind of forum admins that makes a contextual decision.

Did that user sexually solicit any underage users on my forum?
Did that user act in any untoward manner toward other users?
Did that user break any of the actual terms of use of my site?
Did that user actually have any hint of breaking the law via my forum?

I would ask these questions before making a judgement. I wouldn't jump to the automatic conclusion that just because a person did something outside of my forum, that he would necessarily do the same thing on my forum.

In no way am I defending the actions of sex offense with a minor, but I also understand that I'm not the one responsible for imposing judgement on him. Society as a whole has already imposed judgement on him. He's been sentenced, he's served time, he's going to carry that shame out in the real world as a burden far beyond my forum.

It sounds like some of you are here to judge, sentence, and execute far beyond the scope of your forum duties.

Would you employ a sex offender as a teacher in a school where they could potentially be working with vulnerable minors? I think not! You never know who’s using the forum, and the presence of a sex offender is not conducive to a family friendly environment.

You never know who’s using the forum...
Just to play Devil's Advocate here for a minute, would you check the history of every user on a forum before allowing them to take part? Otherwise, how would you know if there was someone present to posed a risk. Maybe we should close all forums. Maybe we should shut down the internet, in that case.

That’s valid, but I didn’t suggest we play role of internet police. It’s more just if something comes to light
